Right now I have a gen 3 sdr, an 07 990 SD base, a 690 smcr and an 890 adventure. I rented a duke 890r for a week last year. The 890 engine is about as good as a p twin can get, esp after an intake and tune. The Duke is significantly sharper and peppier than my adventure, and is just as nimble as they come. The 1290r is just a different thing, man.

I traded a problematic 790 in for a a 2021 890 Duke R. All of the issues that occured with the 790 appear to have been acknowledged and addressed with the 890. It is a superb machine and completely reliable so far.

But yeah, check bolts, don't overfill oil etc. Depending on the Duke model it might have the common seal problem behind the front sprocket - haven't seen this issue on a Duke 4 yet, if that's the bike you have. They're pretty bulletproof, these things. Wonky electrics have been bothering KTM earlier, and this is one of the first CANBUS systems
