Simply untrue. Skyscale provides much more control over your descent. The only thing skyscale can't do is plummet like glider or griffon. However,if you miss your mark with glider you can't just fly up a bit and try again like you can with skyscale. using updrafts and leylines to gain altitude much faster than a skyscale

assuming skyscale food is what you mean, they can be bought from the trading post if you don't have the time to craft them yourself, so that's just a matter of getting some gold, which you can easily obtain from the new wizard's vault rewards. you can buy a bag of coins worth 1g for 6 astral acclaim, and you get loads of acclaim from doing the dailies and weeklies. lots of other good rewards
